Witch's Brooms

Ingredients:
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 tbs. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1/8 tsp. salt
10 pretzel rods, broken in half
2 tsp. shortening
2/3 c. semisweet chocolate chips
1/3 c. butterscotch chips
1/2 tsp. shortening

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat brown sugar, butter, water and vanilla with an electric mixer on medium speed until blended. Stir in flour and salt. Shape into 20 (1 1/4 inch) balls. Place pretzel rod halves on ungreased cookie sheets. Press ball of dough onto cut end of each pretzel rod. Press dough with fork to resemble bristles of broom. Bake about 12 minutes or until set but not brown. Remove from the cookie sheet to cooling racks. Cool. Place some wax paper on the counter. Place the brooms on the wax paper. In saucepan, melt 2 tsp. shortening and chocolate chips over low heat until smooth. Remove from heat. Spoon melted chocolate over brooms, leaving 1 inch at the top of the pretzel handle and bottom halves of cookie bristles uncovered. In a small microwaveable bowl, microwave butterscotch chips and 1/2 tsp. shortening uncovered on medium-high for 30-50 seconds, stirring after 30 seconds. Until the chips are melted enough to be stirred. Drizzle over chocolate to form the band on the broom. Let stand until chocolate is firm before serving. Refrigerate for a few minutes if needed.
